Photos and so on

Last week (Friday, in fact), we took Zoë to get photos taken. She was in no mood to cooperate, though, so we had to reschedule. This week, she's got a couple of bruises on her forehead (yes, again), but hopefully they'll be sufficiently faded by Friday.... *crossing my fingers*

She's also definitely starting to talk. Most people (including Andrew) can't tell what she's saying, but I can. She's using words (or sounds) consistantly and frequently. Yay! So far she's got "down", "drink", "Daddy", and something that is either "Mama" or "I love you", and of course, "tickle tickle tickle".

In other areas, she seems to have adjusted to having her bed in the other room. Yes, we only just moved her last week. I actually wanted to move her before that, but doing so required taking her cot apart and we never seemed to have the right tools when we remembered it. Finally we did have the right tools and the time, and the cot went into the other bedroom, along with the boom box so she can have music as she falls asleep.

Having her in her own room is good. She can play in her bed or cry a bit (she often cries before she falls asleep; I think it's a tension release) and then she settles down and sleeps. In the mornings, we can get up and not disturb her, or vice versa. When Andrew does go to get her in the morning, she's always so happy to see him! He brings her to our room and puts her on our bed and she scrambles over to me for a morning cuddle. It's all good, pretty much. The only down side is we have to go that much farther to get her if she wakes up with a nightmare (or whatever it is that makes toddlers wake up sobbing).

Recovered

I'm pleased to report that Zoë appears to have finally recovered from her illness. She's still rather irritable lately, but the runny nose is pretty much gone and her appetite is back and there are no other obvious signs of sickness. She was busy, busy, busy all yesterday afternoon at Nanna's house, in fact.

Other than being on the cranky side (she cries easily and gets very put out over things that normally wouldn't bother her that much), she's doing well. Here's a picture of her taken late on 12 August, just to prove it.

Getting better

Well, Zoë is finally feeling better. She's still got a runny nose, but it's not too terribly severe now, and she's still got a bit of a cough off and on as her little sinuses drain, but the fever's gone and she's lost that pathetic, exhausted, pitiful sick toddler look. Yesterday she was walking around and playing on the floor a little bit, and we went out to the grocery store last night, which she seemed to quite enjoy. I'm hoping that the sinus stuff will clear up within the next day or so, but it's been over a week, so I won't be surprised if it takes the better part of another week to finally go away.

Some improvement

Well, there seems to be a fair amount of improvement with Zoë's illness. Last night she slept fairly peacefully, and was even able to breathe through her nose for the most part. She's still got some of the cough (probably from her sinuses draining), and a little bit of a fever, but she's much more alert and bright-eyed today. She and I had a big cuddle and a bit of a play and a tickle on the couch, with her holding her little feet up and saying, "Tickle tickle tickle," which comes out like, "tickoo, tickoo, tickoo" (she loves being tickled more than any little kid I've ever seen).

She's still got a runny nose, and she hates, hates, hates having her nose wiped. She fights ferociously whenever anyone tries to wipe her nose. Granted, her nose is quite sore right now, so that's part of it, but she hates having her nose messed with no matter what the situation is. Being sick just makes it worse.

I'm hoping that she'll be past this soon, poor kid.
