We went out to lunch today, and Zoë had scrambled eggs and toast. She then proceeded to literally fall asleep in the high chair. It was the funniest thing I've seen in ages, this little baby trying desperately to keep her head up as if she was saying, "I'm not tired...". At one point, she nodded off and then half woke with a start and, as if she remembered she had been eating, she raised her hand to her mouth and motioned as if putting food in, even though her hand was empty. We did, of course, take her out of the chair so she could have a nap (I put her in the sling while I drank a nice cup of tea).
Also on the subject of food, Zoë didn't care much for spaghetti. Last night we had spaghetti, so I put some in a dish with some tomatoes I cooked in the microwave for about 45 seconds. She likes tomato, and has had pasta, but she didn't know what to make of the long strings of spaghetti. She certainly didn't seem inclined to eat it. She mostly played with it for a while, threw a lot on the floor and into her lap, and then demanded that we get her out of the high chair (this is achieved by making complaining noises while raising her arms and hands to a parent). I think she might do better with spirals, shells, or macaroni.
Lately I'm trying to convince Zoë that she can get a drink from a cup. She can and does drink from a cup, but it's mostly a novelty to her. When she's thirsty, she wants breastmilk. I'm not terribly worried about it, but she really does need to drink more from a cup because she can't have breastmilk with her dinner indefinitely.
Zoë has also been making sounds that sound suspiciously like "hi". I don't mean the sound, which is easy enough to make. I mean the way she says it, as if it's a happy greeting. Andrew heard her today, and he thought the same thing. She's certainly able to communicate with body language, she understands words and phrases that we say, so it can't be far off that she realizes that she, too, can make sounds that have specific meaning.

This is the first entry in this file. Zoë is just ten months old as I'm starting this log of notes on her development.
She is currently feeding herself finger foods, drinking from a cup (although she's not all that thrilled with it), standing up when she can get hold of something to do so, crawling (generally only so that she can get somewhere to stand up), "talking" in chattery little baby syllables (mostly "ma-mah", "da-dah", although she doesn't use them as words), "singing" and experimenting with her voice (including sharp, loud bursts of noise), giving kisses and cuddles when she's in the mood, and she definitely and certainly recognizes people such as her grandparents and great-grandparents. She understands certain words and phrases (milk, want something to eat, pussycat, you're cute, no). She's still being breastfed and showing no signs of wanting to wean, and I'm not inclined to rush it. She plays peekaboo and her latest Cute Baby Trick is sticking her finger up a nostril. Also, she hasn't got any teeth, but there's a very definite lump in her lower gum and she's showing signs of teething off an on (as she has for months).
That's enough to start. I'll fill in more as we go with this file.
